Born on November 3rd 1801 in Catania, Sicily, Vincenzo Salvatore Carmelo Francesco Bellini was the eldest of seven children born into a musical family.
Known for his use of long-flowing melodic tunes, Vincenzo Bellini was fondly called "the Swan of Catania". Bellini always strived for clarity and elegance in his melodic music. He introduced a large number of cantabile, aria-like passages into his repertoire.
